Driftwood

Driftwood comes in many shapes, sizes, and even types. It can be as plain as a stick, or it can be intricate with many branches. Additionally, driftwood has many beneficial qualities such as
- Creating a natural look: Not only does driftwood add visual appeal to the aquarium, but it also creates a familiar environment for your betta, which allows him or her to be more comfortable with the surroundings. If your betta is more comfortable, then he or she won't be susceptible to disease and will be able to develop vibrant colors.
- Creating optimal water conditions: When the driftwood is placed in the aquarium, it releases tannins into the water. The tannins darken the water (which bettas enjoy), and lower the pH to under 7. Tannins also inhibit the growth of fungus, promote a strong immune system, and improves your betta's health. Another way to provide tannins is to get Indian Almond Leaves and let them soak in your aquarium.
- Providing hiding places: Driftwood also helps your betta to deal with stress by giving him a place to escape to whenever he needs to. You can stack driftwood to form caves, tunnels, and other underwater sculptures for your betta to swim through. You can even use driftwood along with live plants to create underwater master pieces.
